Randle, Cispus, & The Highway 12 Corridor

Station 14-1 serves as the headquarters and primary response station for Randle Fire & EMS. The station supports the majority of the district’s day-to-day operations, including fire suppression, emergency medical services, rescue, wildland response, training, administration, and community activities.

From Station 14-1, personnel respond throughout a primary service area of approximately 105 square miles, much of which is rural and heavily forested. Only about 0.64 square miles of the district is served by fire hydrants, making mobile water supply, water-shuttle operations, and dependable apparatus especially important to operations.

Station 14-1 is also the administrative center of Lewis County Fire Protection District No. 14 and hosts training and public meetings. The station has served the Randle community for many years, but its location presents a significant long-term challenge. The facility is located within a documented flood hazard area and has experienced repeated flooding. District records document severe flooding in 2005 and 2006, including approximately three feet of water, as well as renewed operational impacts during flooding in 2025. The district has since acquired property on higher ground for the eventual relocation and replacement of Station 14-1. The Lewis County Hazard Mitigation Plan specifically identifies relocation or mitigation of Station 14-1 as a district hazard-reduction priority.

Station 14-1 provides response coverage for emergency medical incidents, residential and commercial structure fires, wildland and wildland-urban interface fires, motor vehicle collisions, and other emergencies along the U.S. Highway 12 corridor, industrial and commercial occupancies, schools and learning facilities, campgrounds, timberlands, flooding, and incidents involving remote or difficult access.

Cispus, GPNF, Randle Area

Station 14-2 provides Randle Fire & EMS with an important operational presence in the Cispus Valley. The station extends fire and emergency response resources into more remote portions of the district, reducing the distance apparatus must travel from the main station in Randle and providing a closer hub for additional units on incidents in that area.

The Cispus Valley became part of Lewis County Fire Protection District No. 14 in 1979, expanding the district into a rural and heavily forested area characterized by long response distances, limited fire hydrant coverage, and significant wildland-urban interface exposure.

Station 14-2 houses apparatus positioned to support structural fire protection and medical emergencies in this area. This station is particularly important because the Cispus area includes residences, forestlands, campgrounds and recreational areas, as well as the Cispus Learning Center and surrounding state and federal lands. The station also supports emergency response by providing a critical communication link during incidents and can support medium scale basic forward EOC needs.

Remote locations, seasonal visitors, limited cellular and radio communications, difficult access, and extended travel times for additional resources can make this a strong hub for Randle Fire & EMS.

Building for the Next Generation

This 5.46-acre property represents the future of Randle Fire & EMS. The District purchased the site on higher ground to provide a safe, resilient location for the eventual replacement of our current Station 14-1 which has experienced repeated flooding and remains vulnerable during major flood events.

Our goal is much more than simply replacing an aging fire station. We are planning a modern public-safety facility designed around the needs of Randle and the surrounding community for decades to come. The new station will bring fire, EMS, administration, training, and emergency-response resources together in a facility designed for today's operations while leaving room for our department and community to grow.

Planning includes modern apparatus bays, improved firefighter health and contamination-control features, reliable emergency power and communications, dedicated EMS and equipment storage, training and classroom space, and living facilities that will support our long-term goals.

Plans will consider space for firefighter and EMT education, regional training, emergency coordination, and other uses that strengthen our community's ability to prepare for and respond to emergencies.

Most importantly, relocating Station 14-1 to higher ground will help protect the community's emergency-response capability when it is needed most. Instead of moving apparatus, equipment and supplies when flooding threatens the existing station, our goal is to have a headquarters capable of remaining operational through disasters and supporting emergency response throughout our approximately 105-square-mile district.

This will be a major project, and it will not happen overnight. Randle Fire & EMS is actively pursuing grant funding to complete the planning, engineering and other work necessary to make the project construction-ready while seeking outside funding to reduce the burden on local taxpayers.

This property is an investment in the next generation of Randle Fire & EMS. It provides a safer location, a stronger emergency-response system, better support for our volunteers, and a facility designed to serve our community well into the future.
